Before the readers is a textbook on the history of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks), the famous "Short Course". The first edition of the textbook was published in 1938 and was compiled with significant personal involvement of the Secretary of the Central Committee of the VKP(b) I. V. Stalin. The history of the party is considered from 1883, when the first Russian Marxist group "Emancipation of Labor" appeared, to 1937, when the elections to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR took place. This textbook not only defined the content of teaching the history of the party but also had a direct impact on historical science in the USSR as a whole from the late 1930s to the mid-1950s. The concept of the historical development of Russia and the Bolshevik party outlined in it had a huge influence on Soviet society. The "Short Course" was only published in Russian from 1938 to 1956 (after the death of I. V. Stalin, the book was published under the title "Short Course of the History of the CPSU") and was reprinted more than 300 times with a total circulation of over 42 million copies. It was also published in 67 languages, with a total circulation of over 60 million copies. The book is recommended for historians, political scientists, philosophers, sociologists, students, and postgraduates in relevant fields, as well as to a wide range of readers interested in the history of the USSR, the theory and history of Marxism and socialism.
