In this edition, for the first time in Russian, we present a part of Patrick Fraser Tytler's fundamental work "History of Scotland," covering the period from the emergence of the Scottish kingdom to 1370. The author created the first multi-volume history of Scotland, bringing it up to 1603. Patrick Fraser Tytler laid the foundation of the eventful history of Scotland, outlining all the important facts and phenomena that occurred during the Scottish Middle Ages: the internal and external policies of Scottish kings, clan disputes, and conspiracies against the crown, the formation of key institutions of power and society, the birth of Scottish knighthood, Scotland's relations with its closest neighbors, and the Anglo-Scottish wars of the 13th and 14th centuries. The book features portraits of historical figures who played a key role in the country's history and became symbols of the heroic character of the Scottish people - Alexander III, Robert I Bruce, and William Wallace. The author also extensively covers various aspects of everyday and cultural life in medieval Scotland: the structure of state power, castle construction, rural economy, the birth of cities and the development of trade, the church and its influence, poetry and music, entertainment, and fashion. The book will be of interest not only to historians but also to all enthusiasts of Scotland.
