This textbook fundamentally differs from many similar books. Its goal is a systematic presentation of Russian history from the 19th to the early 20th century and the cultivation of a respectful attitude towards the past of the people and the country.
Until now, the overwhelming majority of educational literature reproduces old ideologized assessments and judgments, depicting Russia as a country of ignorance, savagery, and backwardness. Disregard for the past, mocking it negatively affects the formation of national self-awareness of a citizen of modern Russia, capable of understanding that in the fate of the people, as well as in their own fate, the flow of time (yesterday-today-tomorrow) is inseparable. And to comprehend and accept this, one must know the past, not boast about it, but also not be ashamed of the deeds of their ancestors.
Vast and contradictory Russia ('a whole universe', in the words of Catherine II) was a diverse and unique country, where there was plenty of darkness and light, joy and sadness, greatness and misery. This textbook will help to grasp its uniqueness, to feel the pain and joy of the past.
