Alexandra Osipovna Ishimova (1804–1881) - Russian children"s writer, translator, teacher.
As the basis of the future historical book “History for Children” (1836), Karamzin, which A.O. Ishimova re -read several times. It is known that the writer worked on her book for six years. Written for children, “History” by A. Ishimova is also interesting to an adult reader: it contains extensive information about the thousand -year history of the Fatherland. For her historical work, the writer received an honorary Demidov Prize of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In addition to working on a book, A.O. Ishimova taught, translated from English, and also engaged in publishing. From 1841 to 1862, the writer published the children"s magazine Street.

The famous Russian critic V. Belinsky appreciated the work of the writer: “History” by Mrs. Ishimova - an important acquisition for Russian literature: so richly composing her other virtues , between which the first place is occupied by an excellent story and a beautiful language, denouncing the hand of a firm, experience literary, thorough study of the subject, tireless hard work. ”
