Written in the 19th century, "History of Russia in Stories for Children" is one of the first, but extremely successful attempts to engagingly tell children about the history of their country. The author, the well-known writer and translator A. O. Ishimova, based her work on "History of the Russian State" by N. A. Karamzin and retold it in an interesting and easy way, using simple and understandable language, covering the period from ancient times to the beginning of the reign of Nicholas I. The book was enthusiastically received by the public, highly praised by A. S. Pushkin, N. V. Gogol, V. A. Zhukovsky, and many others. Ishimova's "History" has undergone dozens of reprints, and even today it continues to be very popular among readers.
