This work is the first textbook in domestic historiography on the evolution of British foreign policy from the early New Age, when the traditions of the policy of the balance of power in Europe and trade-colonial expansion were laid, and up to the second decade of the XXI century. The work traces a change in the situation of Great Britain in the system of international relations, its transformation in the XIX century. In a powerful world power with global coverage of interests and the struggle to maintain this status against the backdrop of increased competition in the international arena in the 20th century, its subsequent transition from the category of the “great” into the category of the middle powers of the first rank. An important place in the study is the analysis of the main directions of the British foreign policy - transatlantic, European, along the line of the colonial empire transformed into the Commonwealth, as well as the relationship of the East -West, in the formation of which the UK is always one of the leading roles. The basis of the work, which is the result of many years of teaching activities of authors, reading the corresponding lecture courses in MGIMO and at the Faculty of Faculty of Moscow State University for a long period, is the study of archival sources, as well as studies of both domestic and foreign historians
