The book discusses urgent problems of modern Russian historical science. Interests are caused by articles on the theoretical aspects of the genesis of the Old Russian Institute of Princely power and the history of the development of the Varangian-Russian issue in the works of pre-revolutionary historians. New topics are presented: the development of historical thought of Russian scientific emigration, the restoration of the patriarchate in Russia, the role of a "leading quote" in Soviet historiography.
