On the basis of previously unknown documents of state and departmental archives, the authors consider the formation of F.E. Dzerzhinsky as a military leader of the Soviet state, the legal status of the structures of the Cheka -OGPU, the improvement of the military apparatus, training and education of personnel of the Cheka -OGPU, counterintelligence support for the Red Army on the fronts of the Civil War, participation in the suppression of rebellions, the rebel movement and banditry, the care of F.E. Dzerzhinsky on defense capabilities
republics and combat effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Soviet Russia.
