This book sheds a new light on the discussion of female emancipation, which was held in Russia in the second half of the 19th century. In the center of the study are the little -known texts of Alexei Sergeyevich Suvorin (1834-1912), one of the most influential Russian journalists of his time, publisher of the newspaper "New Time". Articles, fragments of the diary and letters, as well as the artistic works of Suvorin, serve as a good example for studying the mentality of the rangers, to which the hero of the book belonged, including their views on the “female question”. At the same time, Suvorin’s position serves as an illustration of dual perception of the feminist movement gaining strength: supporting the ideas of female education in the spirit of liberal discourse, the journalist rejected the idea of a woman’s personal freedom in a conservative spirit.
