The book is dedicated to the history of the famous Polotsk campaign of Ivan the Terrible: the Polotsk campaign of 1563, the integration of the Polotsk -Smolensk borderlands into the Russian state, the construction and military fate of the "Polotsk suburbs", the campaign of Stefan Batoria, the capture of Polotsk is the farthest point of the Russian promotion of Russia as West in the XVI century. The history of the Polotsk land in 1563-1579. - This is one of the first experiments of the imperial policy of Russia in a western direction. The campaign of 1563 is the outstanding military success of Russia during the war of Ivan the Terrible.
