This book is dedicated to grenades, chemical weapons and flamethrowers of the Russian army of the early twentieth century. The material was stated primarily from the perspective of those who had to fight with this weapon - soldiers and officers of the Russian army.
The book continues a series of publications telling about the armament of the Russian Army of the First World War. In this volume, already fifth in the series, information about grenades (manual and gun), chemical weapons and flamethrower was collected, used in the period 1914-1917. in the Russian army. Thus, the theme of this volume is, as it were, intermediate between individual weapons and collective means of warfare. In addition to domestic samples, the book also provides data on the imported and trophy weapons used in the troops, the use of which at that time was massive.
In the previously published literature, the declared topics were highlighted extremely unevenly: in specialized publications dedicated to grenades, the period of the First World War has not been allocated in any way, publications on the history of flamethrower weapons are single and fragmented, and the theme of the history of the chemical weapons of that time was raised in publications The 1930s, but subsequently actually found herself under an informal prohibition.
In this publication, the material was stated primarily from the perspective of those who had to fight with this weapon - soldiers and officers of the Russian army of the beginning of the twentieth century. Significant attention is paid to the use of weapons in the troops, its advantages and disadvantages in the eyes of military personnel. Proceedings of V.V. Glazkova is the first attempt to describe this kind in Russian practice, which allows today"s reader to look at weapons and military equipment from the point of view of a warrior of that time.
When writing a book, materials of federal and regional archives funds were widely used, as well as published sources of the early twentieth century, primarily special and technical literature, which today is a great rarity. The narrative is complemented by a rich illustrative row, which invariably characterizes the publications of the Russian Knights Foundation. Most of the information published in the book becomes the property of a wide range of readers for the first time
