In the II - III centuries. BC. The Armed Forces of Hellenistic Macedonia proved their combat effectiveness and stamina in wars with Illyrians and Thracians, Greek unions, Pergamum and Rhodes. The war with Sparta, which ended with a grand battle of Sellasia in 222 BC, clearly showed the increased military power of the ruling dynasty of antigonides.
