The rule of Justinian I (527-565) is marked by numerous wars that led to the seizure of vast territories in the Western Mediterranean, lost by the Roman Empire in the 5th century. As a Christian emperor, Justinian considered it his duty to restore the former borders of the state. In the east, he continued the war with Persia, begun in the board of his predecessor Justin I, and the conflicts in this direction continued with breaks until 562. In the West, Justinian waged successful wars with the barbaric kingdoms that arose on the territory of the Western Roman Empire. As a result of the war of 533-534, the Kingdom of Vandals and Alans was conquered in North Africa, and the war with the Ostrogoths in 535-554 brought Byzantium power over Italy. Less successful wars with the Kingdom of Westgota led to the expansion of Byzantine possessions in Spain.
About the great Byzantine ruler and commander, his victories and defeats is told by the new book of the series
