The memoirs of the outstanding military leader and public figure, Hero of the Soviet Union, Army General Valentin Ivanovich Varennikov, “The Unique” were first published in 2001-2002.
At the present three-volume edition, all eleven parts of memories were included in great interest for both the historians and the widest circle of readers.
The third volume tells about the author’s service as the commander in chief of the ground forces, about the maximum socio-political tension in the country, about the bloody events in the Caucasus and in the Baltic states, about the State Emergency Committee, the arrest and the acquittal. The author discusses the main reasons for the catastrophe of our society, shares memories of working in the State Duma, touches on the problems of changing power in the Russian Federation
