The monograph reveals the scale of the personality and significance of the work of I. S. Turgenev as figures of the system -forming, central in Russian culture of the second half of the 19th century. During the analysis of individual works and within the framework of conceptual generalizations based on comparison with the work of I. A. Goncharov and F. M. Dostoevsky, aesthetic innovation and dialogical productivity of Turgenev’s artistic activity are shown. The interpretations of the most important historical and literary events characterizing personal relations, the aesthetic and worldview positions of Turgenev, Dostoevsky and L. N. Tolstoy are clarified and rethought. A detailed analysis of the Turgenev theme was carried out in the novel by Dostoevsky “Demons”, Turgenev’s motives and images in the work of A.P. Chekhov
