Evelyn Klengel-Brandt offers to make a trip on the time scale, which covers for more than three thousand years. Following the author, we find ourselves in the III millennium BC. e. Among the Sumerians, we are present several hundred years later when creating the laws of King Hammurabi, we are experiencing ruin in 689 BC. e. Babylon by the Assyrian king Sinamherib. But the main attention in the book is, of course, the heyday of Babylon under the king of Nebuchadneor II in the first half of the VI century BC. e. Over the four decades of his reign, Esagil acquired an extraordinary splendor - the temple of the god Marduk, the decoration of the zikurt of Etemenanka - the “Babylonian tower” was completed, many luxurious buildings arose. Babylon rightfully called himself the center of the world. But this did not last long. In 539 BC. e. Babylon surrendered to the Persian king Kira II and from that moment began to lose his significance, empty and eventually turned into ruins. The translation is made specifically for this publication.
