The monograph is the result of many years of studies of the translated heritage of N. M. Karamzin. A systematic study of its translation discourse can significantly expand the usual idea of Karamzin - prose writer, creator of a sentimentalist story, a talented journalist and an outstanding historiographer. The Russian writer appears as a professional translator who introduced the Russian reader to the masterpieces of world literature. The use of translation materials in copyright magazines (Moscow Journal, and subsequently - “Bulletin of Europe”) is revealed. The influence of translation practice on the development of style is traced, and wider - the Russian literary language. The monograph covers the period of 1783–1800, ending with the publication of a three -volume Pantheon of Foreign Literature. The monograph is equipped with a bibliography of translations indicating the established foreign sources.
