The monograph considers the study of military history and military affairs of the ancient world in the Russian Empire, the USSR, the Russian Federation and the post -Soviet countries from the XVIII century. At the beginning of the XXI century. The main topics and directions of scientific work are considered: the beginning of the study of ancient military art, the study of it by military professionals in the 19th - early 20th centuries, works on ancient military history of civilian historians of the XIX - early XX century, work on the topic in the USSR in pre -war Time, works of late and post-Soviet periods.
