The purpose of the fundamental study of the Russian historian Andrei Vasilyevich of the Certain, as the author himself defined it, is “to give a reference book for one of the most important and curious, but it can hardly be said, completely studied and processed periods of Russian history, the Tatar period”.
In order to evaluate the grandeur and significance of the labor of the copy, it is necessary to take into account what difficulties the author had to face the relative poverty and the brevity of the annalistic sources of the study period. To understand the events of that era, the author needed to understand the difficult relations of the princes to each other, to their people and, finally, to the Tatars. Literally at every step, the copy had to meet with gaps of chronology, genealogy, geography and conduct auxiliary research in these areas
