Sergey Vasilievich Dmitrievsky (1893-1964) - in the past Socialist -Revolutionary, then the Bolshevik, Soviet diplomat, who remained in the West in 1930. His pen owns several bright journalistic works. Two of them are presented in this publication: these are “Soviet portraits” (1932) and “Stalin” (1931) A wonderful assessment of “portraits” was given by the Russian philosopher Georgy Fedotov in his article “The Fall of Soviet Power”: ““ Soviet portraits ”by S. Dmitrievsky should compose an era in foreign political literature. For the first time, the Kremlin walls moved out before us, and we saw the actors of the Russian revolutionary tragedy in their genuine growth. Under the mask of Heroes, S. Dmitrievsky showed us the businesslike “dignitaries”, already suffering from obesity, but confident in their abilities, capable, strong -willed, but living in the world of departmental affairs, like ministers of the old regime. ”
