In the book of A.S. Lavrova (University of Paris-Rorbonne) tells about the turning point of Russian history-the reign of Princess Sophia Alekseevna (1682-1689), who pushed his younger brothers, Ivan and Peter from the authorities. The author examines in detail the course of the key events of this troubled period: the Streletsky uprising of 1682, "Khovanschina", the intra- and foreign policy activities of the Sophia government and its "Chancellor" V.V. Golitsyna, Crimean campaigns. Particular attention is paid to the role of the Boyar Duma, the sovereign of the court and the "serving city". The author traces the formation of rival court groups, the history of the penultimate Zemstvo Cathedral and two noble militias collected from the Trinity-Sergius Monastery in the most dramatic moments of the struggle for power at the top and the last time played a decisive role in the political history of Russia
