Valery Aleksandrovich Tishkov (born in 1941)-an outstanding scientist-historian and ethnologist, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, twice laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science, Scientific adviser to the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology named after N.N. Miklukho-Maclaya RAS, author of numerous scientific works and the most cited Russian scientist cited in Russia and the world.
There are long -standing questions that concern many people and that scientists and politicians are looking for answers. What is a nation, how is it created and what role plays in the lives of people and states? What is Russia as a country and as a people: is it a state-nation or civilization? Finally, who are we Russians and what do we imagine our country and its desired appearance? The construction of national statehood and the preservation of the unique ethnocultural diversity of Russians determines our domestic and foreign policy. Civil solidarity, common historical and cultural values, a sense of ownership with Russia as their homeland and patriotism are the foundations that make our country and its people sovereign and influential in the modern world. The idea of Russia as a historical and socio-political community, which ultimately developed common dramas, victories and outstanding achievements of culture, is justified in the book of academician Valery Tishkov in its entirety and complexity
