The monograph is dedicated to the military organization of the Byzantine Empire in the VII - first half of the 9th century. The author considers it as a set of several regional armies, refusing, in relation to the era of the VII - the first half of the 9th century, from the concept of the "Byzantine army" as a single large organism, because each of the regional armies (Anatolic, Arminiac, Opician, Thracis, Civirreotes and others Military groups) possessed specific features of development, which does not allow us to talk about a single process of structural transformations in a military organization as a whole.
Based on the extensive complex of sources (chronicle and "history", the lives of saints, military and administrative treatises, inscriptions, papyruses and especially prints - at least 300 copies published from 1884 to 2016) E. A) E.A. Mechamadiev considers and in stages restores the history of each of the regional armies of the Byzantium of the specified period (the so -called era of the dark centuries): the process of creating a particular army, its internal organizational structure, functions and territorial movements.
The author focuses first of all on the differences in the formation and formation of each of the armies, tracing the features of the transformation of each of the armies into the military-administrative territorial district (fem)
