In the Russian Imperial Army, 48-lin field howitzers of Krupp and Schneider systems appeared as a result of intrigues of the progerman and professional political, financial and military-industrial lobbyists at the court of the last Emperor of All-Russian. However, at the time of their adoption in their category, they were the most long -range and powerful tools in comparison with British and German analogues. These artillery systems were successfully used on the battlefields of the First World War and Civil Wars, and after their end they formed the basis of the light howitzer artillery of the Red Army. To maintain their characteristics at the required level in the interwar times, they were modernized in the 122-mm howitzers of the arr. 1910/30 and arr. 1909/37 It is noteworthy that the project of their improvement was carried out by V.N. Sidorenko, an officer of the pre-revolutionary army who switched to the service of Soviet power, is one of the few truly competent specialists in the development of artillery guns during the years of devastation and the first five-year plans.
Modernized systems were involved in all wars and armed conflicts of the 1930s and early 1940s, where the USSR took part, including the Great Patriotic War. However, their combat thirty -year history, and mostly victorious, was in the shadow of the glory of later and more advanced guns and howitzers of their own development.
The book of the famous researcher of armored vehicles contains the most complete unique information on the history of the creation, device, operation and combat use of the 122-mm howitzers arr. 1910/30 and 1909/37
