This publication includes the capital work of the famous Russian historian and sociologist N.I. Kareeva "History of Western Europe in modern times" (published in 1893-1917), which covers a significant period of European history, from the late Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century. The book is written at a high theoretical level with the involvement of a huge number of sources. Historical events are highlighted in connection with the general cultural context, which allows you to see some hidden mechanisms-motor mechanisms and trace the process of the formation of a modern European. The book is published for the first time since its publication.
This book is the second part of the volume dedicated to the events of the last third of the 19th century, the contemporary of which is the author. Hence the huge array of material and the complexity of its processing and evaluation.
The first two chapters (XIII and XIV) are devoted to the transition from the 1870s to? 1880s. And they analyze the general phenomena of an international nature (the eastern question, a triple union and colonial policy) In the next five chapters, internal life is again considered over the past two decades of the XIX century, Germany (chap. XV), France (chap. XVI), England (chap. XVII), Italy (chap. XVIII) and Austria-Hungary (ch. XIX), they can add to them even chapters on the papacy (chap. XX) and about secondary states in general for the entire last third of the century (chap. XXI)
The last department of Tom, consisting of four chapters, once again returns the reader to a general phenomena. It opens with head of the XXII about the economic evolution of Western Europe in recent decades of the XIX century. And ends with the head of the XXV about the place of Western Europe in world politics and trade by the beginning of the 20th century, the middle is occupied by chapters on the working movement and socialism at the end of the century (chap. XXIII) and the spiritual culture over the past decades (chap. XXIV)
The book can be recommended to both professional historians and everyone who is interested in the history of Europe
