A prominent Russian and Soviet historian, rector of Moscow University (1911-1917), academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1929), corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (since 1917) Matvey Kuzmich Lyubavsky (1860-1936) left a bright mark in the history of Russian science. The book "History of the Western Slavs", first published back in 1917, is of considerable interest today. A detailed outline of the history of the Western Slavs is presented on the pages of this volumetric labor, which was the object of the close interest of the scientist. We are talking about the appearance of them in the historical arena, the formation and fall of the first Slavic states and the main events of the past until the beginning of the First World War. Particular attention is paid to Poland and the Czech Republic as the closest and most significant neighbors of our country. The book is all the more valuable that we know very little about our closest European relatives
