The German Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is more known in our country as the Teutonic (as well as under the completely fantastic name of the "Livonian Order", never in history), in Russian historiography, fiction and cinematography. From childhood, almost everyone remembers the expression of the “dogs -fish”, although in Russian chronicles and lives of the noble princes - for example, in the “Life of Alexander Nevsky” - these "dogs" were much more respectful: “God"s nobles”," servants of God "," God"s Rhetori ", that is," God"s knights". With the word "Teutonic", the associative series immediately suggests itself - the "Ice Bratin", the Iron Pig, the Cradle of the aggressive Prussian -junker state and, of course, the “forerunner of German fascism”. This set of stamps, if desired, could continue to infinity. What did the "Teutons really were? What are their ideals for which they were ready to without hesitation to give their lives? It was finally time to abandon the stamps and try soberly, without emotions, to figure out who these terrible "dogs are not like people who are these terrible" dogs.
