The book proposed to the reader is devoted to the study of the issue of bodily punishments in Russia. A review of the historical course of the development of this kind of punishment in the system of Russian criminal legislation is presented from the end of the XV to the middle of the XIX century --- from the lawships of Ivan III (1497) and Ivan IV (1550) to the Code of Punishments published in 1866 The author traces the history of punishments in Russia from the dominance of the “heavy bodily Car” to the abolition of bodily punishment in the era of the reign of Emperor Alexander II. A separate section of the book is devoted to the consideration of decisions on bodily punishments in force in special military legislation.
