The book considers the wide context of the activities of Petrovsky diplomacy during the Northern War, the formation of new approaches to the foreign policy problems of Russia and the methods of solving them. Bright characters are represented that defended Russian national interests as ambassadors and residents under European courtyards in conditions of confusing and variable international conditions. The role of the Tsar-reformer in search of that diplomatic strategy is shown, which-through overcoming errors, illusions, doubts-ultimately led to the Nistadt world. Research by V.V. Dgoev is one of the few generalizing works on this topic and, today, the only one where it is disclosed so thoroughly.
