The book published by the Museum of the History of the Gulag and the RGASPI published the text of the report “Pospelov Commission” (1956) with scientific comments, as well as a facsimile reproduction of the original of the report and a number of other documents of the Greater Terror.
The party commission, known as the Pospelov Commission, was created on December 31, 1955 to clarify the issue of political repressions against leading party, state and military figures. The volume report prepared by the commission contained a terrible actual material about mass terror unleashed in the country in the second half of the 1930s.
This was the first word of the truth about the crimes of Stalin against his people, said by officials at the highest state level. Pospelov’s work materials were used by Khrushchev in a closed report at the XX Congress of the CPSU
