The first Vatican mythographer was compiled at the turn of the I-II millennium by an unknown medieval compiler and contains 233 stories of various sizes written mainly from the works of Roman authors of the 2nd-5 centuries (Servius, lactation, Fulgence, Higin, etc), as well as two medieval theologians (Isidore of Sevilles and Remi from the lake) who used the same sources. Thus, the Vatican mythographer is a very interesting cut of various views on ancient myths that prevailed in the last centuries of the Roman Empire. This composition has never been translated into Russian. Together with the collections of myths Gigin already published in Alethea and the prepared by M.L. Gasparov and V.N. Yarho by one -volume “Antique mythographers" translation of the Vatican mythographer will almost complete the publication of sources that have reached us in ancient mythography.
