1926. The famous Norwegian traveler Rual Engelbrengt, engraving Amundsen, fifteen years ago, became the first person who stepped to the South Pole. And now he has a new ambitious dream: to conquer the opposite pole of the Earth - northern, and from the air. This dream fully meets the realities of time. By the beginning of the 20s of the last century, extensive experience of arctic aeronautics had accumulated: sometimes successful, sometimes not, sometimes tragic. There was an intrigue, there was a competition, there was excitement, and Amundsen could not stay away, although he was no longer young and not very healthy.
A year earlier, in 1925, Amundsen made an attempt to reach the North Pole by air on the airplane "Val" of the company Dornier ". The expedition almost ended tragically. Amundsen concludes: the airplane is not the best "transport" to the North Pole. The Norwegian traveler chooses the airship of the Italian Umberto Nobile. The international expedition (eight Norwegians, six Italians, including the designer of the airship, one American and one Swede) started from Spitsbergen on May 11, 1926, and after 15 hours Norwegian, American and Italian flags were dropped over the North Pole, and after another 56 Watch the airship of Norway landed in Alaska. Amundsen reached its goal: the North Pole from the air is subdued!
In the same 1926, a description of all stages of the expedition made by the main participants in the flight was published in the Norwegian language. This was the last lifetime edition of the book of the great Norwegian. The international interest in this event is so great that a year later the book is translated into Russian, English, German, French, Spanish and other languages.
After 94 years, the Paulsen Publishing House again publishes a description of the first transpular flight across the Arctic Ocean and provides readers with the opportunity to get acquainted with all the vicissitudes of the trip, which was as difficult as heroic.
Aerching and aviation historian Alexei Belokrys specifically wrote a large material for this publication, in which he spoke in detail about how polar air swimming arose and developed, how the air race to the North Pole unfolded in the 1920s
