The service at the courts of non -Jewish rulers has a long tradition in Jewish history. However, as a special institute, court Jews, usually contractors and suppliers, became a feature of the absolutist states of Central Europe since the 16th century. Seeking the maximum strengthening of their power, the rulers found it very useful to use business experience inherent in Jews and the ability to establish economic ties. In the study of Zelma Stern, there is a change in historical conditions, clarifying the features of such a phenomenon as a “court Jew” in the era of transformations - namely during the transition period from palace absolutism to mercantilism. According to Stern, “if you look at their fate, it will become clear how dramatic the position of the Collance of Jewry as a whole was people who tried to unite two different worlds, without abandoning their identity.”
