The eighth volume of the "Cambridge History of the Ancient World" is dedicated to the history of ancient Rome and other states of the Mediterranean from the beginning of the Second Punic War to 133 BC. e. The main content of this period was the expansion of Roman expansion: having stood in a new fierce confrontation with Carthage, the inhabitants of the eternal city subjugated the Tsizalpin Gaul and Spain and at the same time went on the eastern direction, entering into a complex and versatile conflict with Hellenistic states. In addition to these clashes, the book analyzes the internal development of Rome, the state of the Seleucids, Pergamum, Rhodes, as well as the Greek-Bactrian and Greek-Indian kingdoms. Some chapters are devoted to the interaction of Roman and Greek traditions in culture and archaeological sources on the history of Italy in the era in question
