The book is dedicated not only and not so much the history of the institute itself, but also the history of Russia in the 20th century, shown, among other things, through the prism of one of its most terrible periods - the time of mass repressions in which employees of the institute suffered.
The first volume tells the story of the institute itself in 1896-2004, its employees, students and graduates. It covers both the pre-revolutionary period of its existence and the main milestones of the history of the technological institution in the twentieth century, including its activities in the post-perestroika period, when the next change of socio-political system, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the deep systemic crisis of the 1990s was set by the institute, all the higher Education and science in the country in a difficult situation
