During the Holocaust, twenty -five young prisoners of the concentration camp Auschwitz were selected to create and sew fashionable clothing. These were mainly Jewish girls. They hoped that this work would save them from gas chambers.
The girls worked in an “elite” workshop on the base of the camp called “Upper Atelier”, founded by Hedviga Hooss, the wife of the commandant of the camp, which was patronized by the wives of the SS guards and officers. They produced high -quality clothing for the ladies of the Higher Society of the Nazi Berlin and for the SSsovs themselves.
In the “Auschwitz"s tailors”, historian Lucy Edlington talks about the exploits of these brave women and sheds light on the little -known head of World War II and the Holocaust. Family and friendly bonds of girls not only helped them survive the persecution, but also played their role in camp resistance. The author relies on many sources, including an interview with the last surviving seamstress
