Did you know that the underground road in St. Petersburg was supposed to be built back in the 1820s and the great poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin could well become a passenger of the subway? In 1814, the English inventor Mark Izambar Brunel introduced Emperor Alexander I the project of the world"s first sinter shield for laying tunnels near Neva. But with the help of this shield, a submarine tunnel was built under the Thames for the London Metro, but in the city on the Neva the first underground line appeared only in November 1955, although it was going to open it in 1925 and in 1942. The chapter dedicated to the history of the design and construction of the subway, only recently declassified archival documents are given.
Readers will visit all the stations of the St. Petersburg metro, learn a lot of curious biographies of architects, artists and sculptors who took part in their creation, and those who wish are proposed, using prompts, to find surprises “hidden” by masters in their creations.
Perhaps some facts will turn out to be unexpected, have not done without legends and amazing stories: you will find out what the writer Sergey Dovlatov did on the construction of the metro and where the famous films were shot, and you can also look into the future and find out where new ones will appear in the future subway stations and how they will look
