For centuries, Russia has lived side by side with the nomadic peoples of the Great Steppe and the North, gradually including “nomadic” regions into its borders. The culmination of this process was the forced modernization of the nomadic territories implemented in the Soviet Union in the 1930s. Most nomads almost overnight were planted on the ground. Cities, villages and collective farms grew up in the endless steppes. Many yesterday"s free cattle breeders became farmers, went to work for factories and mines. What were the causes of the accelerated, forced tie nomadic peoples to the Earth and what are the historical results of this process? These and other questions will be answered by the book of the Doctor of Historical Sciences F.L. Sinitsyna
