The heroic history of Turkestan campaigns in Soviet times was almost completely deleted from the textbooks. Even today, the annexation of Central Asia is either silent or is given in the Soviet or British interpretation. In Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, falsification of history is used to destabilize integrative processes and spread Russophobia.
The first part of the book shows the history of Turkestan campaigns of the Russian army and the dramatic departure of Russia from the east. These events are revealed through the images of two outstanding Russian generals, the first and last commanders of the troops of the Turkestan military district.
The second part is devoted to the author’s memoirs about the service and participation in hostilities and peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Bosnia.
