Alexander Lvovich Pogodin (1872-1947)-one of the most prominent Russian historians and philologists-Slavists of the 20th century. A graduate of the historical and philological faculty of St. Petersburg University, a professor, doctor of Slavic philology, a talented scientist with a difficult fate. Since 1920 - in exile, taught at the University of Belgrade. His master"s dissertation called "from the history of Slavic movements" and lectures read in St. Petersburg formed the basis of the first large book with the same name. Although to date, the study of the history of the Slavs has advanced far ahead, and a number of hypotheses are outdated, the huge amount of sources attracted made this work in many respects still relevant and interesting not only as a monument to the scientific thought of the past. He acquires new shades due to the fact that as the second part is complemented by the subsequent work of the scientist - "Brief outline of the history of the Slavs"
