This book is the second edition of the memoirs of the laureate of the State Prize, the Hero of Socialist Labor, the participant in the Great Patriotic War, the famous genetics, academician V.A. Strunnikov. In the new edition, the author more widely tells about his events rich in the difficult years of the last century. The narrative covers many events of the bygone century, which flow against the background of civil and World War II, Lysenkovschina and the recovery of the period for science.
In the new edition, the author tried in an even more popular form to state his scientific achievements, widely implemented in practice.
Along with purely technical inventions, the author of the book has developed a number of artificial methods for the propagation of mulberry silkworm (meiotic partenogenesis, gynogenesis, monosperic androgenesis, etc), on the basis of which he proposed original schemes of plants and animals. He put forward a new hypothesis of the formation of heterosis, which allowed the first to consolidate it in subsequent generations without the resumption of hybridization. The implemented engineering at the chromosomal and genomic levels opened the way to create fundamentally new genetic ways to combat harmful insects and cloning both sexes.
