The study is devoted to self -immolations and other forms of ritual suicide of the Old Believers - the little -studied phenomenon of the religious life of the late XVII - XIX century. Significant attention is paid to the theological disputes of the Old Believer mentors of the "Garykh". Statistics and localization of self -immolations in the European North, in the Volga region and Siberia have been studied. The rites preceding the "Fiery Death" are examined in detail. The subject of study was also a collective memory of martyrs, preserved for centuries among supporters and opponents of self -immolation. The basis for the conclusions was numerous published sources, as well as documents (mainly investigative cases) found in the archives of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk and Petrozavodsk.
