The book tells about the history of the Patriarchate of Constantinople from the 4th century BC Until the end of 2018, the book describes the difficult relationship of the patriarchs with the secular rulers of Constantinople - Byzantine and Latin emperors, as well as Turkish sultans. From the XI to the XV century, the Patriarchate of Constantinople has to counteract the expansion of Catholicism in the Eastern Mediterranean, including the Crusades. The struggle of the Greeks for independence from the Turks in the XVIII -XIX centuries creates serious problems of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Of course, the book pays great attention to the relations of the Russian Orthodox Church and Patriarchate. We are talking about the adoption by Russia of Christianity, the “Tsaregrad projects” by Catherine the Great and its heirs, the reaction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople to the 1917 revolution, contacts with renovationists, the problems of the Kyiv Metropolis and much more.
