His famous work "History of Great Travels", consisting of three books: "Opening of the Earth", "Mariners of the XVIII century" and "travelers of the XIX century", the famous French writer Jules Verne (1828-1905) wrote for sixteen years. It brightly and entertainingly describes the most significant trips, discoveries, changing the idea of people about the geography of the world, who stylishly white spots on maps that promised wealth and became the causes of wars. The author covered the period from ancient times to the 40s of the XIX century.
The book "Navigators of the XVIII century" is devoted to the description of the most striking and significant sea travels and geographical discoveries of the eighteenth century - Bugenville, three expeditions of the famous Captain Cook, Laperuz, Bereng, Gumboldt and others.
The publication is accompanied by 102 illustrations of famous French artists, sketches from travel diaries of expeditions, facsimiles of ancient cards and engravings. Among them, for the first time in Russia, a full set of 51 drawings made by P. Filippote is published
