The book of the State Heraldmer of the Russian Federation G. V. Vilinbakhov is devoted to the history of Russian banners and covers the period from the 17th to the beginning of the 20th century. With the involvement of an extensive historical, archival material, the author talks about the role that banners played in Russian history, about the meaning of the banner as a symbol and as a bearer of symbols, the history of the banners of the Russian regiments, gives a detailed description of banner symbolism and its significance. The book widely uses materials from the collection of banners and military graphics of the State Hermitage, the guardian of which is the author of the book.
