Adventurism as a cultural phenomenon took its classical form in the XVIII century, and this period serves as a reference point for all research on this topic. But in earlier and later history there are figures and events that cannot be described without resorting to concepts such as an "adventurer" or "adventure". Often they are connected with Russia - a country of radical social and political experiments, which, on the one hand, attracted enterprising people, on the other hand, repelled those who disagree, sometimes prompting them to start their own desperate enterprises. The Russian adventure represents several episodes of this double history of attraction and repulsion, but the main task of its authors was to determine the boundaries of what we call "adventurism". Is it enough for a person to make crazy plans and deliberately take risk to be considered an adventurer? Then most discoverers and reformers will fall into this category. Or is an adventure always a failed project?
The book was based on the materials of the conference "Russian adventure", held on September 21-23, 2017 by a school of relevant humanitarian research of the RANEPA.
