The descendant of the ancient Danish kind Ferdinand Ferdinandovich Wrangel, following his father and grandfather, devoted his life to the service of the Russian throne. Moving away, the valiant naval officer and an outstanding gydrograph scientist settled in Switzerland and took up journalism. His articles and public speeches about the modern policy and culture of Russia - the country where he was born, grew up and took place as a researcher and a state -owned person - gained wide fame among the German -speaking intelligentsia and had a certain influence on the representation of Europeans about the way of the Russian state and society of the late XIX - early XX centuries.
