The second book of the monograph "Russia and the Vatican. Politics and diplomacy. XIX - beginning of the XX century. " Coves one of the particularly difficult periods of always difficult relations between Russia with the Vatican. It was marked by a repeated gap in 1877. After the fact that occurred in 1866, at first he followed the years of attempts to negotiate negotiations on their restoration, then he had to overcome great difficulties in their conduct. Finally, agreements were concluded in Vienna and Rome in 1880 and 1882. But even after this it took more than ten years of new efforts so that in 1894, diplomatic relations were restored, that is, 28 years after their gap.
In historiography, both domestic and foreign, this period was virtually completely around the attention of historians. To fill this gap and cover in detail all the vicissitudes in the negotiations themselves and around them were allowed to attract documents of the secret archive of the Vatican and, of course, the materials of the Russian archives, and above all, the archive of the foreign policy of the Russian Empire and the Russian State Historical Archive.
