The attention of readers is offered a book by the famous German historian Leopold von Ranke (1795 → 1886), which studies the history of the Institute of Papacy. The author sets himself the task of finding out the historical significance of the activities of the Roman dads in the XVI and XVII centuries, to describe the state of the church and the state during this period, which has become a period of secondary, spiritual and world power of Rome.
In this publication, which is the second volume of the book, the state of papal power in the 17th century is considered. The activities of the Catholic Church are investigated against the movement of the Reformation and the widespread spread of Catholicism in Europe at the beginning of the 17th century. At the same time, political opposition to Catholicism is described. The first volume of the book in which the history of papal power is considered in the 16th century is published simultaneously with the second in our publishing house.
