Readers are proposed to the book of the famous German historian Leopold von Ranke (1795-1886), which studies the history of the Institute of Papacy. By its task, the author sets to find out the meaning of the Roman dads in the XVI and XVII centuries, the state of the church and the state during this period --- a period of secondary, spiritual-Soviet power of Rome.
In this publication, which is the first volume of the book, the state of papal power in the 16th century and the events that led it to this state are considered. The political movements that existed during the reign of a particular pope are described. The revival of Catholicism is investigated. The second volume of the book in which the history of papal power is considered in the 17th century is published simultaneously with the first in our publishing house.
